Compare personal finance apps

Honest, side-by-side comparisons of Kemback and the apps people are choosing between, and of those apps against each other. Every price and feature was checked on the company's own website.

Choosing a money app is a decision you live with for years, so it deserves better than a ranked list. These pages compare apps on the things that change your week: what you pay, whether transactions arrive on their own, how the budget works, who else in your household can use it, and whether you can take your data with you when you leave.

Each comparison starts with a verdict, says plainly where the other app is stronger, and ends with how to move your history. Kemback is our product, so read the Kemback pages knowing that. We’ve tried to be fair anyway: Kemback doesn’t connect to banks yet, and the pages say so.

Kemback compared with other apps

Kemback vs YNAB

Both give every dollar a job. YNAB is the established, paid envelope app with bank connections built in; Kemback is free, adds a category mode and a Quicken-style register, and asks you to import bank files until its Plus plan brings sync.

Kemback vs Monarch

Monarch is a polished, paid app with bank sync, investments and apps on every phone today. Kemback is free, gives each household member private accounts and a choice of envelope or category budgets, and asks you to import bank files until its Plus plan brings sync.

Kemback vs Quicken Simplifi

Simplifi is an inexpensive, mobile-friendly app with bank sync, a Spending Plan and investment tracking. Kemback is free, has a deeper register with reconciliation and a household with roles, and imports bank files until its Plus plan brings sync.

Kemback vs Quicken Classic

Quicken Classic is deep desktop software with bank downloads, investments, tax reports and bill pay. Kemback brings a Classic-style register to a free cloud service your household can share, but doesn't do investments, taxes or bill pay, and imports bank files until its Plus plan brings sync.

Kemback vs Copilot Money

Copilot is a polished Apple-first app with bank sync, investments and AI categorization. Kemback is free in any browser, gives each partner their own sign-in and role, and offers envelope budgets, but imports bank files until its Plus plan brings sync.

Kemback vs Rocket Money

Rocket Money is a phone-first app that syncs with your bank, tracks subscriptions and can negotiate bills for a fee. Kemback is a free, deeper budgeting and register service for the household, with bill tracking but no bill negotiation, and it imports bank files until its Plus plan brings sync.

Kemback vs Empower

Both are free. Empower's Personal Dashboard is built around net worth, investments and retirement planning, with bank sync. Kemback is built around the budget and the register for a shared household, and imports bank files until its Plus plan brings sync.

Kemback vs EveryDollar

Both have a free plan with no end date and both can run a zero-based budget. EveryDollar is Ramsey's app, with manual entry for free and bank connections on Premium; Kemback's free plan adds bank file import, a full register and export of everything, but has no automatic sync until its Plus plan arrives.

Kemback vs Goodbudget

Both are envelope budgeting apps with a free plan. Goodbudget is the simple, well-taught envelope app with one shared household login and limits on its free tier; Kemback's free plan has no limit on accounts or transactions and gives each person their own sign-in, but has no automatic bank sync until Plus arrives.

Kemback vs Tiller

Tiller feeds your bank transactions into your own Google Sheets or Excel spreadsheet every day, for $99 a year. Kemback is a free budgeting app with a register, bills and households built in, but no automatic bank sync until its Plus plan arrives.

Kemback vs Lunch Money

Lunch Money is a paid, web-first app that handles 160+ currencies and any number of collaborators, with bank sync in the US, Canada and parts of Europe. Kemback is free, US dollars only, and built around a household with roles and private accounts, but has no automatic bank sync until its Plus plan arrives.

Kemback vs PocketGuard

PocketGuard tells you what's left to spend after bills, budgets, goals and debts, connects to banks in the US, Canada and the UK, and sells a lifetime plan. Kemback is free, shows safe to spend from your own register and bills, and gives each person their own sign-in, but has no automatic bank sync until its Plus plan arrives.

Kemback vs Actual Budget

Actual is free, open source and local-first: you run it on your own devices and server, and can add bank sync for a small fee. Kemback is a hosted service with nothing to install, a household with roles and private accounts, and an iPhone app in beta, but no automatic bank sync until its Plus plan arrives.

Other apps, head to head

YNAB vs Monarch

YNAB is a focused envelope budget that asks you to give every dollar a job. Monarch is a wider money dashboard with flexible budgets and investment tracking. Pick on method first; the prices are close.

YNAB vs EveryDollar

Both are zero-based budgets. EveryDollar has a free manual plan and Ramsey's debt snowball; YNAB has one paid plan with bank connections, file import and more countries. Pick on whether you'll pay for sync and how you like to tackle debt.

Monarch vs Copilot Money

Both are subscription-funded dashboards with bank sync, budgets and investments. Copilot is built for Apple devices and the US, with AI categorization; Monarch adds Android, Canada and separate logins for each person in a household.

Quicken Simplifi vs Monarch

Both are cloud apps with bank sync, budgets and investments for the US and Canada. Simplifi costs less and centres on a spending plan; Monarch costs more but shares with a whole household and offers deeper planning on its Plus tier.

Quicken Classic vs Simplifi

Both come from Quicken Inc. Classic is desktop software for Windows and Mac with bill pay, tax reports and business tools; Simplifi is a lighter cloud app for the web and phones. Simplifi can't read Classic data directly, so moving means CSV files.

YNAB vs Goodbudget

Both are envelope budgets. Goodbudget has a free plan and a cheaper Premium, built for manual, envelope-by-envelope budgeting with a shared household login; YNAB is one paid plan with bank sync included, separate logins and more countries.

Questions

How were these comparisons checked?

Every competitor's price, platform and feature was checked on that company's own website or help centre, never on a review site. Each page shows the month prices were checked. Prices change, so confirm on the company's site before you buy.

Is Kemback really free?

Yes. The Free plan has no time limit and includes budgets, the register, bills, reports, rules, import and export. Plus, planned at $79 a year with automatic bank sync, isn't on sale yet; there's a waitlist on the pricing page.

Which budgeting app is best?

It depends on what you need most. If automatic bank sync matters most today, most paid apps here have it and Kemback doesn't yet. If you want a complete free plan, envelope or category budgets and a shared household with private accounts, Kemback is worth a look.

Is Kemback affiliated with Quicken, YNAB or the other apps?

No. Kemback is an independent product from Technology Resolution Group LLC. Other apps' names are used only to compare them, and they are trademarks of their owners.
