About Kemback
Kemback is personal finance software for people who want to know exactly where their money is. It has the depth of desktop software, but it runs in the cloud and is shared with the people you live with.
Why we built it
For years there were two kinds of money software. Desktop programs like Quicken had real depth: a proper register, reconciliation, split transactions and reports you could trust to the cent. But they were tied to one computer, they were hard to share with a partner, and they kept getting more expensive. Free apps like Mint were easy to start with but shallow. They were paid for by advertising financial products to you, and when the business model stopped working, Mint closed and took people’s history with it.
We wanted something in between, and couldn’t find it. So we’re building it:
- A real ledger. Every transaction, split and transfer, with reconciliation against your statements, exact to the cent.
- A budget that fits how you think. Track spending against category budgets, or give every dollar a job with envelopes. It’s the same data either way, and switching never loses anything.
- Made for households. Share accounts and budgets with a partner or family, with roles, while keeping any account private.
- Your history comes with you. Bring every account and transaction from Quicken or Mint, and take everything with you whenever you like.
What we believe
Your data is yours. We don’t sell it, rent it or use it to show you offers. You can export everything, in open formats, at any time.
Free should mean complete. The Free plan isn’t a trial or a teaser. Paid plans add convenience, like automatic bank sync, but you never have to upgrade to manage your money properly.
Money is exact. Kemback stores every amount as a whole number of cents, never as a rounded decimal, so totals always add up.
Security is built in, not added on. We never ask for or store your bank password. Each household’s data is kept apart by the application and again by the database itself. Sign-in supports passkeys and two-step verification.
Where Kemback is today
Kemback works in any modern browser, and the iPhone app is in beta. Android and Windows apps are in development. Automatic bank sync is coming with the Plus plan; until then, you can import OFX, QFX, QIF and CSV files from any bank.
We publish what’s coming on our pricing page, and we write practical guides to budgeting, saving and switching on the blog.
Who we are
Kemback is made by Technology Resolution Group LLC, a small software company in New Jersey. We’re paid by our customers, not by advertisers, and we answer our own email.
